Anne-Sophie Pic & Michel Chapoutier
History
House founded in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, in the northern Rhone valley. After the death of Marius Chapoutier, his son Marc succeeded him and gave the company the name it still bears, "M. Chapoutier". Michel Chapoutier, who succeeded his father Max in the early 1990s (7th-8th generation), imposed a revolution: the conversion of all vineyards into biodynamics in 1991, as well as the creation of "Selections Parcellaires" vinified separately. The House has since extended its vineyard to Roussillon, Portugal and Australia. Family motto: "Fac et spera" ("Do and hope").
Wine house and merchant based in Tain-l'Hermitage, world reference of the northern Rhône valley (Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape...). The group currently operates about 360 hectares of vines in France (Rhône, Roussillon), Portugal and Australia, for a production of about 8 million bottles per year.
The Vineyard
Emblematic vineyard of Hermitage Hill, the only appellation in the world to bring together the four geological eras, with granite, clay and limestone soils. All the vineyards have been managed biodynamically since the early 1990s, with limited yields and separate vinification of each plot ("Parcellar Selections"). The labels have been transcribed in Braille since 1996.
Certifications
Biodynamic agriculture (conversion initiated in 1991).
