Domaine de Tournon

History

In 1997, Michel Chapoutier left to explore Australian terroirs and settled in the State of Victoria — initially in collaboration with renowned local producers (Jasper Hill, Giaconda). In 2009, Chapoutier acquired the Shays Flat and Landsborough Valley estates in the Pyrenees (Victoria), giving birth to Domaine Tournon in full ownership.

The Australian winery of Maison M. Chapoutier, located in the state of Victoria (Pyrenees and Heathcote regions). The estate produces wines from Rhodanian grape varieties (Shiraz/Syrah, Grenache, Marsanne, Viognier), seeking to regain the minerality and elegance of the North Rhone while expressing the Australian terroir and climate. Iconic vintages: Mathilda (Shiraz, Grenache) and Lady's Lane (Shiraz from Heathcote).

The Vineyard

Vines located in the Pyrenees (Western Victoria, cool climate, the Shay's Flat vineyard on red soils mixing schist, silt and quartz of northeast exposure) and in Heathcote (Cambrian red soils). Manual harvesting at maturity, fermentation in concrete vats, long macerations (4 to 6 weeks) with gentle windings, aging in French oak barrels (10-15% new wood) for about 14 months. Contrasting climate (alternating drought/monsoon), with characteristic local fauna (kangaroos, cockatoo) requiring rigorous water management and protective nets.

Certifications
