Manoir du Carra
History
Winery in Denicé since 1850. Jean-Marie Sambardier joined the estate as a winemaker in 1918; his son Jean bought the entire farm in 1962 to create his own production under the name Manoir du Carra. Jean-Noël Sambardier took over the estate in 1972, joined in 1999 by his eldest son Jean-Frédéric (trained in the United States) and then in 2000 by his second son Damien (trained at Domaine Laroche in Chablis). The estate is now run by the 5th generation, Frédéric (commercial part) and Damien (winemaker).
Family estate located in Denicé, in the south of Burgundy, in the heart of Beaujolais. Starting from 4 hectares in 1962, the estate now covers more than 34 hectares spread over the Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages, Brouilly, Fleurie, Juliénas, Moulin-à-Vent and Beaujolais Blanc appellations.
The Vineyard
About fifty plots aged 50 to 100 years (some more than 100 years old), on clay-limestone soils typical of the southern Beaujolais (Golden Stones) to the granitic terroirs of the northern crus. Each plot is vinified separately to preserve the unique expression of the terroir. Manual harvests, semi-carbonic maceration for reds (10 to 12 days), ageing on fine lees in old barrels.
